BDM

You are not selling one more licence, you are opening roads. A country, a channel, an integration with a PMS that puts you inside two hundred hotels at once.

Business Development Manager

What you actually do

  • Choose where not to play
The value of this job is as much in the markets you rule out as in the ones you open. Entering a country with no local partner and no references usually costs a year and returns nothing.
  • Build partnerships that sell
In hotel tech, integrations and partners move more volume than direct outbound. A deal with a PMS or a channel manager gives you distribution, but you have to work it like any other customer.
  • Validate with real revenue
A market is not open when you sign the agreement. It is open when three customers are paying without you being in the room.
  • Translate the product per market
What sells into an urban chain does not sell into a resort. The pitch adapts or it does not land.

The jump to leadership

You go from opening opportunities to deciding where the company puts its money and its people. That means defending a bet in front of the leadership team and owning the consequences if it goes wrong.

What to learn before you take it

  • Build a business case with assumptions that survive an awkward question
  • Negotiate partner terms that do not tie you down forever
  • Size a new market with little data and a lot of judgement

You do not learn this by reading

Everything above is notes. The jump happens by talking to people who already made it, and that is what the community is for. It is free and we meet in person.
